About Us

Mission Statement

The Mission of the FCVFD is to save lives, protect property, and secure the environment from fires and other hazardous situations in a manner that ensures safety for our members and the community. FCVFD proudly serves the Borough of Fox Chapel and assists its neighboring communities. The FCVFD is all volunteer, highly trained, well equipped, and dedicated to serve at any hour of any day.

About Our Department

Located in the Borough of Fox Chapel near Pittsburgh, PA, the Fox Chapel Volunteer Fire Department proudly serves the Borough of Fox Chapel and its neighboring communities. The firefighters — all volunteer — are available to respond to fire, rescue, and other emergency calls 24 hours a day.

The Fox Chapel Volunteer Fire Department responds to a variety of emergency and non-emergency situations. In 2021, we responded to 339 calls. In the past five years (2017 through 2021), we responded to an average of 372 calls per year, and since 2013 we have responded to over 3,200 calls.

To what types of calls do we often respond? Fortunately, we have very few structure fires in Fox Chapel. Although many calls can initially be considered as serious threats to life or property, most often they are less serious situations that may or may not require our assistance. Such calls can result from leaving a fireplace damper closed, burning food on the stove or in the oven, or having a furnace motor fail. All of these situations can fill the house with smoke and create the impression of more danger than actually exists. In such cases, we can rid your house of smoke by employing powerful fans.

In addition to fire calls, you will find the FCVFD active throughout the Borough on many other types of calls. We are trained in both vehicular and non-vehicular rescue and extrication. In the wake of severe weather, you may also find us pumping out basements or securing areas around fallen power lines. We may also be required to secure a landing zone for medical helicopters or assisting our police or emergency medical services provider (Foxwall).

Not only do we provide lifesaving services for Fox Chapel, but we also provide important services of mutual aid to neighboring communities in times of emergency. You may see us assisting other fire departments or fire companies in O’Hara, Aspinwall, Indiana, Harmar, Blawnox, Sharpsburg, Shaler, and occasionally, even more distant municipalities. Public safety is our business!
